Comment!
I commented on World Wide Viewer (WWV)'s blog about Miz Alice and the influence of the Island Belle!
Blue Highway Question & Answer!
How do you think Miz Alice will have an impact on Least Heat-Moon? Give Examples.
Miz Alice is an older, educated lady who gives a tour of her island to Heat- Moon. As she tells the history of the island, Heat-Moon learns also about Miz Alice’s culture, personal story, and beginnings on the island. I believe that Miz Alice will impact Least Heat-Moon to live his life according to what he chooses and to not conform. The island is very dirty, “small, marshy” which has “no mayer, no jail, no local taxes, no water bill.” I think this shows that everyone on the island lives their own life and takes care of just themselves. Miz Alice states that the hardest thing about living on the island is “Having the gumption to live different and the sense to let everybody else life different.” (397) I think that this quote will always stay with Heat-Moon for the rest of his journey and I think that he will teach it to others as well.

REVISISON of 9-10-08: A Day to Remember
In memory of Brandon:
I have always attended the same elementary school, middle school, and high school with my closest friends. As you grow throughout the years, you meet more individuals that each make an impact on your life. As I woke up the other morning, I checked facebook and discovered that one of my good friends had passed away. R.I.P. Brandon was everyone’s current status. It was extremely hard to grip what I had just read. Many thoughts rushed through my head as I wondered what had happened and if the rest of my friends were okay. As I later found out, Brandon had over dosed on a combination of pills and alcohol.
I met Brandon in seventh grade and we instantly became good friends. We hung out with the same group of people. We would go to the movies together, sit together on school field trips and pass notes during class. I remember this one time in 9th grade. It was a Friday night and we were at my friend Hilary's House. We all decided to jump on the trampolin and play a little game of truth or dare. As everyone gathered around, no one would take the dare but Brandon. We dared him to jump in the freezing pool. And he did. Brandon was always the adventurous one of the group. We will always remember him for that. Brandon was a great friend to all of us and we made many more memories together in high school.
Brandon’s best friend called me a day after the accident and I was told to pray and tell everyone that I love or who has made an impact on me, how thankful I am for them. I’m writing this blog to tell you the same message. Life is very short and you should always be thankful for everything and everyone. You never know how much a person has influenced your life until it is too late and they are gone.

Girls VS Boys! Who is to blame?
As a resident in McElvaney Hall and a member of the notorious second floor, we have many policies we are told to abide by. We are told to please clean up after yourself, respect other’s space, not to dead lock the doors open, and most importantly, not destroy McElvaney: our home for the next year. Although the majority of McElvaney follow these rules, there are always the few rebellious individuals. Over the fun filled weekend, vandalism occurred on the second floor- boy’s side. With all the commotion from “boulevarding” and the night game, no one saw who jumped up and knocked down some ceiling tiles. Who would commit such a scandalous crime? What is the point in knocking down tiles?
After recovering from the weekend, McElvaney residents received an email regarding the acts that had occurred. It states that although the action was on the boy’s side of the hall, the girl’s are also held responsible, and ALL (of the second floor) will be fined to replace the damage. Why should the girl’s also be held responsible?
I understand that since no one has come forth to admit to the crime, nor since anyone saw who committed the crime, everyone should be to blame; however, I strongly believe that since it was on the boy’s side and (in a girl’s opinion, only capable of being damaged by a boy), that only the boys are to be blamed! Who do you believe should be blamed? What would be your opinion if you were one of the innocent individuals who is having to pay for the crime?

Comments!!!
I left a comment on ETB's blog called "Campus food on weekends." I agreed with him that during the weekends Mac's place should be kept open.
I also commented on Alexandra's blog "Safety for freshman girls." I believe this is a great policy that SMU enforces on the campus parking lots.

9-10-08: A Day to Remember
In memory of Brandon
I have always attended the same elementary school, middle school, and high school with my closest friends. As you grow throughout the years, you meet more individuals that each make an impact on your life in some form.
I met Brandon in seventh grade and we instantly became good friends. (We even had the harmless, little, middle school crush on each other.) Brandon was a great friend that I would later make many memories with in high school.
Brandon’s best friend called me a day after the accident and I was told to pray and tell everyone that I love or who has made an impact on me, how thankful I am for them.

I just commented on a blog written by littlecoe4 that was also about the transition from high school to college. Her blog, however, was more about time mangement and having the determination to succeed with no one to push her. This blog gave me more insight and let me know that I am not the only one who is slightly overwhelmed by this new experience.

A Blank Slate
I grew up in a small town, and like most teenagers, my schedule from day to day was the same. I woke up, went to school, came home from school, and avoided doing chores and homework. I would then eat dinner with my family, watch some TV, go to sleep, and wake up to do the same routine the next day. After eighteen years, it was time for a new chapter in my life: College. What an exciting thought! My idea of college included a new beginning, no curfew, new friends, and finally being on my own. I did not think I would miss home, high school, or my parents; however, I was most definitely wrong.
After moving into my new dorm room (which I thought was the smallest, yet most exciting thing) and saying goodbye to my parents, I was ready to be on my own in this new world. One day later however, it was a completely different story. I was very upset and realized the responsibility of being a college student. New thoughts rushed through my head: "Where and who do I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with?" "Do my books really cost that much?" And "how do you do laundry?"
The transition into college from the easy high school life will be a hard experience, yet a very rewarding one. Although I am still getting situated, I am overwhelmed and anxious about my future of being on my own and growing from my own experiences. I wish everyone the best of luck in these next four years that are said to be the times of our lives!
