Blue Highway Question & Answer!

How do you think Miz Alice will have an impact on Least Heat-Moon? Give Examples.

Miz Alice is an older, educated lady who gives a tour of her island to Heat- Moon. As she tells the history of the island, Heat-Moon learns also about Miz Alice’s culture, personal story, and beginnings on the island. I believe that Miz Alice will impact Least Heat-Moon to live his life according to what he chooses and to not conform. The island is very dirty, “small, marshy” which has “no mayer, no jail, no local taxes, no water bill.” I think this shows that everyone on the island lives their own life and takes care of just themselves. Miz Alice states that the hardest thing about living on the island is “Having the gumption to live different and the sense to let everybody else life different.” (397) I think that this quote will always stay with Heat-Moon for the rest of his journey and I think that he will teach it to others as well.

REVISISON of 9-10-08: A Day to Remember

In memory of Brandon:
I have always attended the same elementary school, middle school, and high school with my closest friends. As you grow throughout the years, you meet more individuals that each make an impact on your life. As I woke up the other morning, I checked facebook and discovered that one of my good friends had passed away. R.I.P. Brandon was everyone’s current status. It was extremely hard to grip what I had just read. Many thoughts rushed through my head as I wondered what had happened and if the rest of my friends were okay. As I later found out, Brandon had over dosed on a combination of pills and alcohol.

I met Brandon in seventh grade and we instantly became good friends. We hung out with the same group of people. We would go to the movies together, sit together on school field trips and pass notes during class. I remember this one time in 9th grade. It was a Friday night and we were at my friend Hilary's House. We all decided to jump on the trampolin and play a little game of truth or dare. As everyone gathered around, no one would take the dare but Brandon. We dared him to jump in the freezing pool. And he did. Brandon was always the adventurous one of the group. We will always remember him for that. Brandon was a great friend to all of us and we made many more memories together in high school.

Brandon’s best friend called me a day after the accident and I was told to pray and tell everyone that I love or who has made an impact on me, how thankful I am for them. I’m writing this blog to tell you the same message. Life is very short and you should always be thankful for everything and everyone. You never know how much a person has influenced your life until it is too late and they are gone.
